The day before

Tomorrow I move into my room at Waterloo… I’m not really looking forward to it – it means a lot of work and a lot of pain. However, I guess I will be learning a lot of new concepts.

I regret not having posted more frequently in the past few days – there’s been a lot going on. I guess it comes down to a matter of priorities, time and effort. On Thursday and Friday I was involved in packing and moving to Waterloo – a process that consumed a large portion of my time. On Wednesday I had to pick up numerous things from stores, buy used books, complete any last minute issues at work (and there were quite a few) and more. It’s been hectic to say the least.

What is interesting though is what happened on Thursday… I happened to stop by the library and decided to pick up a few books to read. Having wandered in and feeling relieved after finished the numerous errands, I rested at a table and immediately noticed an issue of Harpers. I’d heard of Harper’s but had never read it, so naturally, I was curious. The cover story was “Economics of Empire” and it was in my opinion, one of the clearest and most interesting journalistic pieces I’ve read in some time. Words should serve to enlighten and make one question what they’ve always accepted as “the norm”. This article achieved that purpose. I walked away very impressed and will be reading more…

I’ve been looking around at some of the Movable Type pages and the breadth of design is fascinating. I believe I need quite some extensive design work on the site. How do I get started? I’m not a visual design oriented individual so how do I go about this?
